Mr Kallistratos Dionelis, ASECAP Secretary-General, was invited by EU Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc to take part in a high-level Executive Symposium on Road Safety on 22 January 2018 at the European University Institute in Florence.

Mr Dionelis had the opportunity to share with the other stakeholders ASECAP's views and proposals on road safety for the years to come during this workshop that brought together senior representatives of industry, public authorities , research institutes and society.

After a sharp decrease in the number of road fatalities over the past decade, current statistics show stagnating figures. In the Valletta Declaration on Road Safety of March 2017, EU Ministers for Transport gave new impetus to road safety policy at EU and national level. The European Commission is now preparing a strategic EU framework on road safety for the period 2020-2030. To make sure that the EU framework allows to achieve the best possible results and to translate the commitments of Valletta into a concrete action list, the European Commission organised this symposium to consult all stakeholders who are active in the road safety field.
