Among its several activities, ASECAP organises once per year a meeting called "Study and Information Days", whose aim is to exchange information and experiences between the ASECAP members and the concessionaire companies, which belong to the ASECAP members, about the various subjects concerning road transport at European level.

2008 - MARRAKECH (Morocco)

The 36th edition of the Annual ASECAP Study and Information Days will take place in Marrakech (Morocco) from 18 to 21 May 2008 and will be hosted by the Moroccan member, Société Nationale des Autoroutes du Maroc (ADM).

2007 - HERKALION (Greece)

The 35th edition of the annual ASECAP Study and Information Days took place in Heraklion (Crete, Greece) from 27 to 30 May 2007 and was hosted by the Greek ASECAP member TEO. The event that brought together more than 500 participants focused on The Revised Transport White Paper and the role of the Motorways’ management as a premise for mobility and growth in the future Europe.

The event opened with the main political session of the first day, chaired by ASECAP President, Mr. João Bento. A prestigious panel, composed of Mr. Paolo Costa, President of the European Parliament’s TRAN Committee, Mr. Enrico Grillo Pasquarelli, Director of Directorate E (Inland Transport) of the European Commission’s DG TREN, Mr. Fabrizio Palenzona, AISCAT President, Mr. Henri Stouff, ASFA President, and Mr. José Luis Feito, ASETA President, discussed about the revised EU transport policy and the new co-modality principle and its implications in the sector of transport infrastructures.

The 3rd political session was chaired by the ASECAP General Secretary, Mr. Kallistratos Dionelis. During this session, Mr. Dionelis gave an overview of the EU developments over the last year and presented, in particular, the activities of the 3 permanent ASECAP Committees related to the EU environment.

Part of the afternoon of 28 May and the morning of the 29 May were dedicated to 3 technical sessions where experts from the road operators companies presented their experiences and expertise on the following 3 technical issues:

  • Optimizing road engineering for improved safety
  • The role of VII in motorways’ operations: best practices and future developments
  • Grantor and concessions relations in building financing and operating a European road network: indicators of quality

The afternoon of 29 May was dedicated to a technical and political debate on the latest EU developments concerning the EETS, the future ETC orientations and CESARE IV objectives. During this interactive session, chaired by Mr. Jean Mesqui, ASFA Executive Director and Chairman of ASECAP’s COPER I, the following representatives exchanged their views: Mr. Charles Surmont and Mr. Philippe Hamet from the European Commission’s DG TREN, Mr. João Pecegueiro (BRISA), Chairman of the CESARE IV Steering Committee, Mr. Jan Tierolf (Dutch Ministry of Transport), Chairman of the Stockholm Group, Mr. Anton Sieber (ASFINAG), member of the CESARE IV Steering Committee, and Mr. Klaus Philipp (AGES International GmbH), Chairman of the EC Expert Group 7 on the role of Financial Institutions of EETS.

2006 - PULA (Croatia)

The 34th edition of the ASECAP Study and Information Days took take place in Pula (Croatia) from 21 to 24 May 2006.

2005 - VIENNA (Austria)

The 33rd edition of the ASECAP Study and Information Days took place from the 22 to 25 May 2005 in Vienna, heart of the new enlarged Europe.
During the ASECAP Congress 2005 the subject of the road infrastructures development in the new Europe was analysed.

2004 - VILAMOURA (Portugal)

The 32nd ASECAP Study and Information Days took place from 23 to 26 May 2004 in Vilamoura (Algarve, Portugal) and have been organised by BRISA in close co-operation with the ASECAP Secretariat of Brussels.

The main subject of the ASECAP Congress 2004 has been the Infrastructure Financing in the enlarged Europe, mainly in relation with the problems regarding the Capital Markets.
During the first day of the Congress the subject has been analysed by the ASECAP President, Mr. Rémy Chardon, by Mr. Walter Hecke, CEO of ASFINAG and by certain experts from the financial sector : Mr. Thomas Barrett, representative of EIB (European Investment Bank), Mr. Manuel Preto, representative from Banco Santander of Portugal, Mr. Benjamin Sirgue, representative from CDC IXIS.
The subject has been also developed on the occasion of a Round Table, which took place in the afternoon with important contributions from Mr. Fabrizio Palenzona (AISCAT), Mr. Bernard Val (ASF), Mr. Joao Azevedo Coutinho (BRISA), Mr. Lado Prah (DARS) and Mr. Marian Hantak (UNE-CE) who presented the point of view of the Eastern Europe countries concerning the needs of developing road infrastructures.

During the second technical day of the Congress, the experts from the different associations had the opportunity to make technical presentations on the following items:
- ETC and Interoperability
- Development and sustainability
- From user to customer
- Operation, Maintenance and Safety

The ASECAP Study and Information Days of 2004 have been marqued by an important event in the ASECAP International relations.
The 24th of May in fact ASECAP President, Mr. Rémy Chardon and IBTTA (International Bridges, Tunnels and Turnpike Association), Mr. Jean-François Poupinel, have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two Associations, aiming at strengthening their co-operation in the development of road transport, underlining the importance of promoting the toll as the most efficient tool for financing the construction, operation and maintenance of road infrastructures.

2002 - OSLO (Norway)

This year ASECAP celebrated the 30th edition of its Study and Information Days in Oslo. The event, which took place from 26 to 29 May 2002, has been organised by NORVEGFINANS.
The delegates and the ASECAP members had the opportunity to study very interesting topics related to the road transport policy.
According to the traditional structure of the ASECAP Days, the first day of the Congress is always devoted to the analysis of a "political" subject, while the second day is focused on technical communications, presented by the experts of the ASECAP members.
This year, the first session of the Congress has been devoted to the implications of the European Commission's White Paper on the future Transport Policy. The session has been honoured by the participation of high level personalities: Mrs. Torild Skogsholm, Norwegian Transport Minister, Mr. Luciano Emilio Caveri, President of the Transport Committee in the European Parliament, Mr. Hugh Rees, representative of the European Commission's Vice-President, Mrs. Loyola De Palacio.
During the second day of the Congress the experts of the ASECAP members have illustrated their technical communications, allocated according to the following areas:

A. Interoperable EFC (Electronic Fee Collection) systems
B. European Projects of ASECAP interest (CESARE, PISTA, MONS)
C. ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) mobility
D. Environment and safety


 

2001 - STRASBOURG (France)

In 2001, the ASECAP members met in the city of Strasbourg to celebrate the traditional Study and Information Days, under the organisation of ASFA.

The choice of Strasbourg had a particular signification, because Strasbourg is by definition the "European city", as well as the symbol of the integration and unification process of Europe.

Several important subjects have been discussed during this XXIXth session of the Study Days, i. g. the problem of concessions at European level, the development of intermodality, the respect for the environment, the strengthen of the road safety and the role of the multi-services road operator.

During this session of the ASECAP Days, Mr. José-Luis Feito, President of the Spanish Association ASETA, was appointed as ASECAP President.

 

2000 - ROME (Italy)

In 2000, the XXVIIIth session of the ASECAP Days took place in Rome, under the organisation of AISCAT and it coincided with the celebrations for the Jubilee of the year 2000.

The Session of Rome was honoured by the presence of Mrs. Loyola de Palacio, Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner in charge for Transport and Energy policies.

During the session, the ASECAP President Mr. Giancarlo Elia Valori, presenting the most recent ASECAP activities, underlined the importance of the more and more active role played by the Association towards the European Institutions in the shaping of the future European Transport policy.

The ASECAP members, presenting their national reports, stressed the attention on the need to achieve a real harmonisation of the road policy at European level, introducing in particular the most recent technological developments in the Tele-toll sector. They also suggested to apply the modern strategies for a management of the road sector according to the system PPP (Public and Private Partnership).
